790 w/ 70 loader question

i am looking at a 790 with a 70 loader. my question is how hard would it be to put a skid steer quick attach plate in place of the system that is on it now. thanks in advance.

You would have to fab up the mounts yourself...But note that they are heavy and push the load out further reducing the already very limited lifting capacity of the #70 loader...

I have a 770 with a 70 loader. I would say the low capacity on the FEL is the weakest link in the set up. I think the loader limit is 800 lbs. For me the low'ish capacity of the FEL is not that big of deal and I really like the tractor and FEL overall.

But I would agree with about that by the time you fab up a skid steer plate you will be pretty limited, by lifting capacity, on what you could do with the FEL.

Another thought: Have you looked at the newer JD's and the way they currently do the QA? If you could duplicate that it would be very functional. Maybe you could even but the QA "shoes" and adapt them to your loader.

What do you wan to put on the loader?

thanks for the replies. i was hoping to be able to switch back and forth between a set of forks and the bucket. the weight limitations may be a deal breaker. glad i asked here first.

Agreed with above. Even with the hydraulics tweaked to the max, you'll run up against limitations due to the overall size, weight and geometry of the tractor. In other words, you may be able to technically lift a heavy load off the ground, but you won't feel real happy or safe doing it. So, unless you plan switching between bucket<-->forks frequently, I'd foresake the QA for a method (i.e. lightweight) that didn't sacrifice the outright capability of the machine.

The JDQA option is great if you can fabricate?

it would have been used as a shop tractor, unloading leftover pallet material and loading mulch, topsoil, some gravel. may do better with an older skid steer for these uses. or might look at a forklift as well.
