Does anyone have a good source of a front ring gear and a front drive shaft for a 7260? Mine has a broken gear. When the gear locked up it broke the drive shaft. My local dealer wants an arm and a leg for one.

I can't help you on where to get parts for your 7260, other than calling around to several dealers (but you probably already are doing that). I would like to know what you were doing when you broke your tractor, so I can know what not to do with my 7260 /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Thanks in advance

Since we don't know where you are from we can't help too much. Ring and pinions are matched sets so you can't just replace the ring gear. Yes they are expensive so unless you have a tractor salvage yard near by you have no other choice than to purchase the parts from a dealer. Some dealers are better than others as far as getting you a discount off of list price so do some shopping around. I'd suggest inspecting all the bearings very closely and the case for damage since this failure was enough to break your driveshaft.

I was just mowing a pasture and there was a poping noise and it locked up. Personally, I think this is a factory defalut. I have less than 200 hours on this Cub so I have asked a local dealer to contact MTD for a break on the price of the parts.

You may want to try to get in touch with MTD yourself and explain your problem. If the tractor has only 200 hrs on it I would think they would do something for you. I would suggest to them about sending them your broken gears so the can examine the metal for manufacturing defects or contaminants. It's worth a try....

I had the same problem with my 7260. I was lucky enough to have a dealer that fought to extend my warranty from cub cadet. I was told the breakdown occurs if you are pushing hard enough with the loader that the front wheels come off the ground. If you are in 4 wheel drive the shock load of those wheels coming back down in contact with the ground creates an unusual strain on the front gear set. The same dealer had a 7360 with the same problem. The manual does not caution the user on this. The operational fix is to use 2 wheel drive if you are 'diving' into a piece of dirt or pile or be less agressive when scooping up stuff or push grading. Cub cadet gets over $1000 for the parts. Not so much the dealers fault.
