I bought a 726E John deere snowblower back in October 2009. Use it several times each season on my driveway only. Last week right when the blizzard ended i went to use it and the front auger would not turn, although the impeller and all shafts seemed to be turning just fine. I checked the belts, shear bolts, and all cables,,,, everything was fine.
I called the dealer who I purchased the blower from and he repeated the checklist to me, so the following day they came out and picked it up for service. he mentioned to me that sometimes the auger gear box goes bad,, OK.
Well this morning I get a call from the dealer telling me that the gearbox was indeed shot, but they found some thin copper wire wrapped around the inside of the side auger bracket, and this is the reason why the gearbox had failed.
The cost would be 400.00 to replace. Well I thought that the warranty would cover something, but he said no this would be considered an accident or misuse.
I am the type of person who changes the oil every season, oils and greases all fittings, waxes the shell, and adjusts the belts and springs. If I had seen some wire wrapped around the auger I would have had it cleared off asap.
It seems to me that this might be a design flaw, how could I have even seen it if it was wrapped ??
Your opinions would be greatly appreciated, !
