Have a 7-Iron MMM on a 3320 and was wondering if the mulching kit makes much of a difference over just installing the mulching blades? See the kit includes some sheet metal to retain the clippings in the individual blades, but is it worth the extra 200+ ?

By golly.. it's a good thing somebody thinkin' ahead and good thoughts - too!! THINK GREEN! :D

Any chance that you could get the mulching blades and try them out BEFORE you spend the extra money for the retaining plate?

You might find that the blades are just what you needed and can get by just fine without the added expense.

Best of luck.

I have a 72 mmm and am wondering the same thing. Anyone try deere's Gator blades?? Any other brands to suggest??

I tried the JD Gators on a M665 Midmount Z and returned them to the dealer after an hour of mowing. I didn't care for the way they cut/ shred leaves and found better results by backing over the leaves with the mower after I had blown/mowed them to the middle. I found true Gator blades worked well on Toro commercial walk behinds.

I have a 62D (drive over deck) with Gator blades and they certainly make the clipping much smaller than the normal blade.. Not sure how much better the mulching kit would do though..

good luck

Don't know if just the mulching blades would do what you want. I've installed the mulch kit on my 72" and like it . Keeps the tractor a lot cleaner. Also cutting around ponds and beds keeps the fodder out. Did find I need to sharpen more often though. Hoddykubody

Tglass,
I just finished uo my second year mulching the leaves with the 5' mmm on my 3320. Al I can say is I bought the mulch kit my first fall, and the leaves simply dissappear. It is really great but ther is no way they will be shreded kike that unless you hold them in with the baffles.
My vote- some of the best money I have spent.
Good Luck, Dave
