Okay, so I got my BMG FEL fabbed and mounted to my tractor and the thing works awesome! I have a few questions/issues that I'm hoping to get some insight on.

1) On the right side of the tractor there is a breather/blow by tube that points towards the ground. I assume it's from the head. At low idle the tube smokes and overnight it drips a small amount of oil. The tractor is a 1991 with 780 hrs. Badly seated rings? Valve problem?

2) I am leaking a little bit of hydraulic fluid from the rear PTO shaft. Is there a seal in there that goes bad? How difficult is the fix?

And lastly, what kind of hydraulic fluid shoud I be using for my tractor? I haven't obtained a manual yet, but am looking to do so very shortly.

Thanks in advance for your opinions! Dan.

I can't help you with the engine breather problem...stuff like that is tough to figure out...and, the only time I had a breather problem was on a gas engine with a bad EGR valve.
Yes, there is a gasket on the rear PTO. I suggest you wait until you get your manual to repair this as it appears the PTO shaft is pressed into a bearing on the cover. It doesn't appear to be too bad a job...assuming it's leaking at the gasket. If it's leaking at the shaft itself, it appears the PTO gear pack assembly may require some disassembly. When you get the manual, you'll see what I mean. If it's not leaking to much, you might want to live with this.
As far as Hydraulic fluid...I just use what the dealer has. I know it'll meet spec...and even if more expensive then a generic brand, you don't really need much and it doesn't get changed too often.

SS,

Question 1 - I'd keep changing the engine oil often and check out your cooling system. Is the tractor getting to operating temp and running there for some time? The reason I ask is that if the tractor never reaches operating temperature, it will form deposits in the rings and the heads, and will smoke all the time. My 770 was doing it due to the PO's custom cab heater (never reached the grean area), and ever since I removed it the tractor has been running better and smoking less.

BTW - mine is an '89 and I replaced the radiator hoses, temp sensor and thermostat while removing the cab heater. I'm glad I did, cause the system had a lot of gunk in it and the hoses looked great from the outside, but they had expanded to almost twice their diameter.

It seems to run very cool (hardly above the cold mark). I will look into changing the thermostat.

That's where mine ran...maybe ¼ into the green.
