:welcome: to TBN

Can you tell us in more detail about using the screwdriver...
What is the part no. of the valve and what has failed that a screwdriver works in its place?

Are your valves cable operated? Agree that more details are needed.

This tells me the valve is OK hydraulically. Your problem is electrical. There is an HCU, position sensor, height potentiometer, and stepper motor.
The HCU is the (hitch control unit) "black box" brains of the unit. Position sensor tells the HCU the hitch's position, the height potentiometer is what you set the hitch's height with (the control on the right fender console). The stepper motor operates the hitch valve.

Check relay K101 and Fuse 116. Relay K101 sends power to Fuse 116. If you have power at Fuse 116 the relay K101 is OK. Check connectors and look for broken wires.

The stepper motor is on the valve. It has the screw you turn to manually operate the valve.

Hello beenthere, The valve is located on top of the tree pt hitch, just outside rear window . It is an electric valve, two wires coming in, apparentely it is malfunctioning as ther is a screw on top of valve with a small crew driver one can raise an lower manually turning right and left after pushing down on the screw, don't know the part # but if it is done far the cost is about 500.00 for the part alone. thanks for your help.

Billyrex, everything zebrafive said is good information. I will say that in my experience, the stepper motor is most often at fault. One way I do a quick and easy test is to turn the key to the "on" position and then try to raise and lower the hitch with the switch. Listen carefully to the stepper motor area. If the motor is getting power, you can sometimes hear a slight humming from the stepper motor. If it hums and is not working, chances are that the stepper motor is bad. They sometimes get moisture in them and they seize up. But, definitely make sure before buying one since they are expensive as you already know.

Thanks for all the good info, actually changed out relay to no avail, checked wires at motor, surprised there are 4 small wires going in. Have checked fuses until blue in the face, gotta be the motor will try to hear huming, tractor sets out most of time so could be moisture, any way to service and clean motor?

Never tried cleaning motor. I have taken the top off of a couple and they are usually pretty nasty, so just installed new one. Unfortunately, with today's labor costs, you can't afford to spend much time trying to clean something and then have it not work anyway. If you are doing it for yourself and time is not costing you $, then give it a try. Plus, working for a dealer, you have to guarantee your work and don't want to have a repeat problem.

I had the same issue with my JD 6215. Replaced the stepper motor (AL181805) and that fixed it--only takes about 2 minutes to change out. It runs right at $513 from JD dealer. Aftermarket is $450 + freight. Thought about having it cleaned and/or rebuilt, but wasn't worth the cost, time, and logistics to do it for me.
