60"Finish mower wheels/tire replacements?

I am suprised by those who are having problems with the solid tires coming off the rims.
Both my 60'' finish mower and my brush mower came with the solid wheels from Power Trac,
and I have never had this experience. I have over 400 hrs on the finish mower and maybe
100 hrs on the brush mower. Am I just lucky, or did Power Trac change suppliers?

I have not had my solid tires on either my finish mower or the brush hog come off. My brush hog had square shoulders on them and when I went to get tires for my finish mower I got square shouldered tires for it but they said that they had used a rounded shouldered tire like a wheel borrow and had some that had trouble with those kind rolling off the rim, if I am not mistaken that is what they said or I understood them to say. I am glad you haven't had any trouble with your tires. The conditions that we run under might be the reason for some having trouble, but I would suspect that they would have even more trouble with pneumatic tires. When I first got the finish mower from tracdoc I popped the bead the first time I mowed so I knew the pneumatic tires wasn't for me. What size pt do you have?

My tractor is a Gehl Al20dx. Like the Power Trac, it articulates and is hydrostatic.
I bought the Power Track finish mower, brush mower, and box blade
because the Gehl attachments are hard to find and more expensive.

Your float position may work better than the PT, or your lift arms might be lighter (less weight on the mower deck) -- either one could be a factor.

My PT-425 is so prone to jumping out of float that I normally drive with one hand on the joystick, pushing forward, when I'm mowing...

There are a few other users that have mentioned the float jumpout problem. I haven't had that, yet. The only time it comes out of float is when I jam the operator's compartment into brush. Then it can be downright dangerous, as the brush can push the joystick and cause the FEL arms to lift, which lift the brush into the joystick, which causes it to lift faster! :shocked:About the only way out of that one is to back up quickly while shoving the stick forward.

I think you may be right about the weight issue. I have very little weight on the mower deck because of the way it is attached to my tractor. I do not use the float feature at all when mowing, since my deck floats on its' own.

MossRoad,
Have you had a chance to look at your replacement tires yet, I rolled 2 tires in about 30 minutes of mowing last weekend, Replace them both with the castors from my Brushhog and the rolled one of them. Then spent an hour tring to getthe tire back on the rim finally finished the mowing.
I WANT SOME NEW TIRES! ! !
I would love to order them from the place you got yours, because you say they work very well. Just need to know which ones you got so I can try to duplicate your good luck with them.:)

Guys-I ordered the following rims and tires. They are very nice with full length roller bearings. Just a little shorter than stock tires on my 1430 finish mower. I moved one wheel spacer to adjust for the height, no other changes needed for fit. My son mowed for three hours with no problems.

Part#175-500-BO $49.95 each

Also, I think( #175-701-BO $39.95 each) would work also.

No, sorry. I have not had the tractor out in a few weeks. I will get it out this weekend as I have to go brush hogging to get to my firewood stand. I'll try to confirm with the company if they still offer them, as I want to get a 2nd set for myself, now. ;)

MR,

Sorry I did not get the numbers this weekend. I had to work a 29 hr shift Friday and into Saturday and ended up sleeping most of Sunday. :confused2: Will get them, though. ;)

I had my decks out this weekend and the solid tires that I use on my mower and brush hog are made by CAREFREE Tires. They are hand truck tires and I highly recommend them. I have not had one problem with these solid tires and I beat the heck out of my brush hog. They come with rims and you will need a bushing sleeve to make them work on the PT400 attachment axles as they came 5/8" and I believe the axle is 1/2". Or, you could probably drill out your yolks to 5/8" and use bigger axle bolts.

I did a google search and found the carefree tire company. They are listed as 10" hand truck tires and look to be about $36.00 each (includes shipping!). They have several offsets, centered, etc... listed on their website. Check your numbers first.

Here is a link to some 1/2" to 5/8" steel bushing sleeves at Ace Hardware. Don't know if they are long enough, though.

You're welcome. Sorry it took so long. We have had no rain this month and I haven't mowed in a few weeks. :( The only reason I had the decks out was to go brush hog our property to get to some trees I felled last fall for firewood.
