Have a x485 with 325 hrs. Has been run since new with JD 10-30 non synthetic. Want to run 5-30 synthetic year round. Will this cause any problems? Thanks.

Hello Andy, I enjoy mike's comentary on this oil subject. I feel like I know a little more about the oil I use since reading on here. One thing that he differs with some on is that he uses syn form hour one, so rings must seat with the syn just fine. I like useing long drain oils, getting to old and tired to service aa lot. Luck to you......teddy

Just curious...

What CH or CI rated Heavy Duty Motor oil comes in a 5W30 Blend either in synthetic or conventional? I have never seen one...........

Good job Mike. You've helped educate quite a few of us on this forum. When I first joined TBN I saw the oil forum section, and thought what a snooze ....oil is oil. Now it's one of the first forums I check when visiting TBN.
My blackstone oil test kit should be here anytime. I'll be sending in my first oil analysis. I think having records of oil analysis when selling a vehicle will be quite impressive to any potential buyer.

Thanks for the education!

5w-30 is what's recommended for my JD 4010 diesel. Just switched to synthetic on it at 13.5 hours.

Use 5w-30 in all but the Benz and the Gravely, including all other air-cooled engines. Use a mix of 5w-30 and 15w-50 on those to get the 10w-40 that they seem to want.
