I went to shut down my 5740 today and when I turned the key off, smoke started rolling out from under the dash and it would not shut down. By the time I got the panels off it had stopped smoking and I couldn't find anything hot or burnt. I had to pop the clutch in high gear to stall it out. I'm assuming there is a fuel shut-off relay in there somewhere that's fried. Does anyone know what to look for and has anyone had this problem?
Is there any on-line wiring diagrams?
Thanks.

It's probably the switch. On my 4540 it would not shut off w/o banging on the switch panel to knock the contacts in the switch loose.
On many diesels there is a solenoid on the injection pump that is energized by the switch to allow fuel to flow. Turning the switch off kills the power to the solenoid which stops the fuel flow.

I ended up running a wire from the battery to a push switch on the dash and back to the fuel shut-off solenoid. Push button to stop engine. Problem solved.

If mine I would obtain a three wire relay (hot in-hot out-ground) from Radio Shack or Auto Supply House and wire into the circuit on the new switch that you installed. Any heat generated would then be carried by the relay.
