5525 Update

I figured it was time for a 5525 update.

I just broke 700 hours. 707.9 when I put it up tonight.
I bale 73 round bales.
Loaded them
hauled them
rowed them up

I really like this 5525 tractor. I was checking out the new 5 series and I think JD might be pricing themselves out of the business. The 5105M is a lot more money than the 5525 is/was. 5105E is a tad cheaper than the 5525 but has less features and ergonomics.

Next 5525 project - putting out 14 tons of fertilizer and spraying 80 acres.

I consider tractors cheap entertainment, while I do use them some for work most of the reasons I have them is for kicks. I say get the tractor you wan't, because someday you may not be able to climb aboard and I don't wan't to miss the experience.

I like the 5525 set up too and much prefer it to the 5105E. If I go bigger though I think I would skip over the 5xxx machines and add a 6430 or something similar. This seems to be closer to the size and weight of the older 4020s' I grew up with but a lot nicer.

I have been looking at 6000s. 6430s are nice. $57K without a loader.
6115d $44K without a loader

It seems having a 6000 for a lot of my work without a loader would make sense. I guess one of the issues I think about is not putting many hours on them as a whole. I guess in some ways that doesn't matter. I have a 94 ZR-1 Corvette with 19K miles. Why should my tractors be any different.

As long as you have some tractors with loaders that are sufficient for your operation I would think a larger field tractor without a loader would be preferrable. One of the reasons I bought my 4520 was because my 110 has the fixed loader. If I buy a larger field tractor next it will be without a loader for sure.

The hay farm across the road from us got a 6000 series, 2WD, no FEL for a very good price. Great for round baling and running the stack wagon for the square bales.
