Had just about finished cut 20 acres. Was going up very small hill and it died. Would not start back up. Is turning over but has that dry sound like it is not getting gas. Towed home. Had trash in bulb so cleaned it. The fuel line and drained out carb. No good. Have had issues of taking along time to crack, turning over. Seems like starter. Had this issue couple years ago & starter fixed it. While cutting had turned off twice & had classic starter whine issues but always started right up on 2nd try. It has that sound when you try to crank and forgot to turn key on. Have 12v getting to coil but no fire at plugs. Could not get 12v on wire from coil at distributor cap end. This points to a coil I guess but with starter issue looking for advise. Moneys tight so don't want to start throwing $$ at it in wrong approach.

Clean the points.

You may have a bad condenser that is pitting the points . Get a spark! then worry about the starter motor!

Thanks
Was going to jump wire the starter but getting the spark makes sense

You have a worn out set of points, give it a tune up.

Probably that too but just pulled off distributor cap and found the cover for the points had broken half into. Couldn't find all the pieces to it either. Must have gotten chewed up. Cleaned and blew it out best I could.
