Does anyone know how to activate the glow plugs on a 5083e for cold weather starting or does this model even come standard with glow plugs?

you have to turn the key one notch to the clockwise and push the key in. I would suggest plugging in the tractor for easier starting. I dont think it is a standard option.

I believe, but could be wrong, if you do not have an air intake heater on youre unit the pushing of the key at 1/4 does not do anything in this instance. I agree that a coolant heater is the best option, and the air intake heater could be helpful. As a base unit I don't think the 5xxxE's have a starting aid.

You are correct in the way I understand it. All of the cold weather aids are "Accessories" and I gave the OP the benefit of the doubt in that he meant the intake heater and not glow plugs.

You guys are correct, no glow plugs, just an intake pre-heater. I always keep mine plugged in but I have started it in -30 when the power was out and it started no problem.
Glow plugs are not required on all diesel engines, it depends on the injector location and combustion chamber design.
