5083e fuel filter - how does it come off?

The instructions in the manual make this sound simple, which it probably is. Here's the link to what I'm trying to do: OMSJ290166 I can't get the retaining ring "A" to turn more than 1/4". Even tried a strap wrench but apparently it is supposed to be hand tight. It doesn't seem to be enough but maybe it is and the filter is just stuck? Any help appreciated.

Never mind! Got it to turn CLOCKWISE.

Yep, those are "fun" the first time you try it.

It helps to push up on the lock ring as you turn it.

So the reason I had to take the fuel filter off was because I have gelled fuel in my lines. I'll start another thread about that mess.
