Anyone change the hyd filter at the 100 hr service yet? My scheduled maintenance section in the manual says use a shop vac on fill port to reduce hyd fluid lost, the maintenance procedures don't say anything about that.

I understand that to mean when only changing the filter and not dropping out all the oil? Might work reasonably well.

The 5085 may be a different beast, but I just did what the owners manual said, sans shop vac. Collected about a 1/3 of a gallon at the filter. I'll use it for starting a brush fire or a miscellaneous general purpose lube oil.

Just turned 110 hrs and was wondering the same. Haven't decided if I'll change it or not yet. Can't imagine it needs it.

Yes you are only changing the filter at this stage, not all the fluid. I'm just wondering who used a shop vac and who didn't. I wonder how much fluid I'll loose if I dont use a shop vac.

a lot more than if you don't use shop vac. It's best to have a helper, loosen filter to point fluid starts to drip, attach vac and remove and install filter if you don't loosen filter first it will suck the oil out of filter

Put a pan under the filter and run it off. You should have a 5 gallon bucket of hy-gard laying around if your going to have a decent sized tractor. I'm at 400+ hours and on my 2nd bucket. Granted I use it in three machines. Swapping out the QD couplers I always loose some fluid. Same with taking the loader off.

Jeez. I might just change all the fluid. Be good for it anyways.

Have changed a couple. Never a big issue. Slid bucket under filter. Spun off old one spun new one on. Checked and added fluid back to fill level and moved on. Don't recall more than quart or so being lost.

No shop vac.

Thanks! I guess I'll skip changing it all then. 200 bucks in fluid. I hope following the manual is a safe bet. It says change just filter at 100 hours.

I just changed mine today. No shop vac, took off the old one and replaced it with a new one. More fluid stayed in the filter than was lost from the tractor side.

I changed my filter on the 5075e without the shop vac and lost maybe 1 or 2 quarts max.

Is this all that came out, or all the came out before you screwed the new filter on?

Just changed it and followed the instructions. No reference in those for a shop vac. I did not even have to add fluid. Sight glass still full.

Replace Transmission-Hydraulic Filter

PY4407
PY4407-UN-22FEB06

A - Transmission-Hydraulic Oil Filter

Remove filter (A). Apply a film of oil to new gasket and install new filter. Hand tighten plus 1/2 turn.

Run engine several seconds and recheck transmission-hydraulic oil level.

Add transmission fluid if required. (See Fuels, Lubricants and Coolant section.)

Great!
No screen to clean?

There is a hydraulic pick-up screen on the 5055d, but the manual says to do that at 1200 hours. I cleaned the one on my 5210 at 600 hours and it needed it. Must admit I did not see any change in how the hydraulics operated after to changing the fluid/filter and cleaning the screen.

5115m just changed the hydro filter at 160 hours. Used a shop vac and could hear the oil gurgling with filter off. Would guess oil would have been gushing out without the vac?
Interesting to see a few metal shavings sitting in the bottom of the filter. Guessing some left over machining chips.
