Question for anyone out there and I can’t seem to find it online. I am new to using a 499 haybine just had a sickle cutter before but ran a1411 discbine when I still lived on the family farm.
Question is are the 2 cutting bars independent or do they get bolted together in the middle? Ran fine for 40 acres now it’s making a banging sound and the only thing I found so far is where the 2 bars meet they are not bolted together, but I don’t see any bolts missing either? Please help

My 489 had one solid cutting bar that went from one side to the other. Perhaps your bar broke in two and that's the banging noise?

I know there is special bolts, nuts, and guards for the middle cause the auction I bought it at the farmer threw in a box of parts just for the middle of the haybine, but it’s hard to troubleshoot the noise on a hydraulic pump drive system on a 479 I would just turn the teeth arm by hand that doesn’t work on the 499.

check each sickle bushing. One may be going on vacation.

The Sickle Bars go opposite direction to reduce vibration, In/In, Out/Out

So yes a Bushing, or Guard Alignment where they meet in the middle.

Do they also get bolted together in the middle? I checked bushings, I also replaced 2 guards that were a little bit bent but still have the noise and were the two cutting bars meet they move a lot

Alright I will definitely double check all of those but is there anything that connects the two bars together? A shim that bolts the 2 bars together or something?

No they reciprocate, but if I remember correctly the center sections and guards are special units for the overlap

These things were New when I was working on them back in the 80's

So sorry I didn’t get back on here right away. I broke my left ankle and foot and didn’t get back to the noise right away. Anyway one noise a loose guard in the middle section where the 2 bars overlap and the second noise I found was a roller starting to loose some rubber
