JD 4500
I am looking at a JD 4500 tractor w/ a 48 backhoe. I was surprised to see that the backhoe is not subframe mounted. How strong is this backhoe? If the backhoe is run hard will the tractor axle/transmission where backhoe gets mounted get damaged?

The only problem I ever had with the 48BH was the rockshaft on my 4310 could barely lift it into position. That, and it seemed a bit oversized for the machine (if that's possible:)). I'm sure I tested it a few times... Never had a problem while I owned it!

I'm fairly certain that the mounting system for the 448 and the current, JD model 485 is little changed from the 48 backhoe.

Very stable and structurally sound.
