Timb mentioned in a post he stared his fuel gauge never reads full on his 4710. Mine doesnt either. When totally full, it shows 3/4 at best. Anyone else having this problem? Is this a warranty issue? I know its not a big deal, but for the money these things cost, you'd expect a fuel gauge to read full when full, empty when empty.

Actually I wasn't very clear on my message. I haven't had my 4710 long enough or run it low enough to get a good feel over the whole gauge range, but in the top 1/4 it seemed roughly accurate. When the dealer delivered the tractor, the gauge read just a needle's width below full. (I didn't check the actual tank level). I ran it down to just under a 3/4 reading - and then topped it up the tank as high as I thought prudent (but left a small gap below the filler neck). That took about 3 gallons and change. With that I got a reading about 7/8 or a little higher - but still below where it was when I started. So there must be room for a little more fuel.

Hmm. If you're getting at best a 3/4 reading - that is a bit different and sounds like somethings awry.

I have a 4300. It never showed over 3/4. The dealer adjusted it. Bent the metal wire holding the flote. It now read full most of the time and will run dry at about 1/3 . It is not a precision gage. I gave up, since I know how it reads it doesnt run dry. Not the best answer but I can live with it.

As I mentioned in the other related post, my 4610 came from the dealer with a screwed up fuel gauge. Never would read over 1/2. It was replaced under warranty and now works kinda like yours. Never reads full when topped off and still has 4 gallons when it's on empty. I have learned to use the time/rpm method to determine when to refuel.

The fuel gauge on my 4710 reads full when it is full but when it reads 1/4 it is almost empty. I would rather have it read empty when it is empty. I know when the tank is full. It looks to me like the float is for a tank that is not as tall as the one in the tractor. The float does not have enough range to read correctly at full & empty.

At least we have auto bleed fuel systems!! Imagine NOT having tat on a machine with side skirts, a loader and assorted plumbing in the way... I had to bleed my old Yanmar a few times and it really puts fear in you. It isn't really all that bad, but a real hassle, especially if it's a mile walk to the tools...
