Don't know about you guys but I have been blowing snow like a madman for the last month. Blower has been working like a champ until I lost a Keyway on the large sprocket. I put another in with loctite on the set screw and tighted as much as I dared with out snaping the allen wrench. Within 2 hours I lost another key. I have since put in another key and hope not to lose this one. Any ideas on what is causing the keys to disappear? Was thinking of dimpling the next one, if I lose it again. Ant help would be appreciated.

Hello

Check to see if the gear wobbles side to side on the shaft. If so the gear will need replaced. If not replace the allen head set screw with the square head set screw. You can tighten it better with the square ones. Also check key way isn't worn so gear can't rotate back an forth on shaft.

It will not cure the problem but you can try a "dog" ot "grub" screw which is a set screw with a reduced diameter at the tip that fits into a hole in the shaft or key. The square head version of these screws are also available drilled for safety wire which can help prevent backing out from vibration.

Stay warm

I will give it a try if I lose another. I don't recall the sprocket wobbling when I was taking it off or putting it on. Just started happening and it appears the set screw may be backing out on me just a hair. Thats why I figured I would dimple the next keyway then loctite it in witha couple of grunts.
