Oil & Fuel 4500 fuel filter

when i did my 50 hr service i was going to replace the copper washer on top of the fuel filter but i guess you cant pull that bolt all the way out without removing the starter. am i wrong? i am talking about the primary filter, the most aft one.

surley sombody knows... i dont want to pull that starter if i dont have to. plus it does leak since i changed the filter, i need to replace that washer.

There were some posts a few weeks or so back about Mahindra filters that had a faulty seal. The shape of the seal was changed and the newer filters do not leak. This could be the problem you are experiencing. Is the filter itself leaking?

no its on top of the filter, i changed the seal when i changed the filter. the mechanic said to change the washer to because they will leak. this is normal, anytime you have a copper washer it is a crush washer, one time use only. when i try to remove the bolt to replace the washer it hits the starter before it comes out of the filter housing.

maybe i just needed to jerk on it harder, but i would like to hear it from someone else before i make it worse. the leak is small and i could live with it till the next filter change.

I also replaced my fuel filters at the 50 hours mark. In thinking about it afterwards, I had to really wonder if it was really necessary. Just how many particulates can there be between a new tank and the fuel lines to the injector pump to completely foul the primary filter?

Mine is the 4500 FWD but essentially the same tractor. Incidentally, the FWD takes a different secondary filter than the 2wd. Instead of dropping the starter, I took the bracket that holds the two fuel filters off the engine and it gave me all the room I needed. Seems like a lot of work but really not that bad. Get your metric wrenches/sockets out and it's not too bad of a job. I hope this helps you out and good luck!

My dealer told me the fuel filter generally doesn't need changed at the 50 hour mark.

well that wasnt so bad,, got rid of the leak. they did give me the wrong secondary filter, but the old one was spotless so i just put it back in.
