After replacing a sync reverser and now have lost 2 gears I want a compact utility tractor with a wet clutch and power reverser. Don't want hydrostatic. Most of the Korean, Japanese and Indian tractors I have researched use a dry clutch and a sync reverser. Is there a specific brand that uses the wet clutch and power shuttle? Or am I going to have to look at $50-60K utilities?

Check out the TYM/Branson 5835 but it might be on the bigger size for your liking.

I think it's about the smallest one with power shuttle though.

Edit: I think they'll be releasing a cab version of it sometime this year.

I bought a very nice 2002 Massey Ferguson 451, 52 HP utility tractor with shuttle--shift and FEL for $14k last summer. I've been very satisfied with my purchase.

Yanmar YT347/359 with the iHMT. 10 year power train warranty. Puts more power to the ground than a HST.

Kubota M5660SU if the size isn't to large.

Hydraulic shuttle, no clutch pedal needed to shift F-R. I have a larger one with zero issues so far on the shuttle.

Massey Ferguson 2860M is right within your power and budget range.

Edit: sorry, I miss read the last sentence...

There is an 1840M power shuttle as well; but the 2850/60M isn't that much more for a good bit more tractor.

Anyways, on Power Shuttles, I really like them in construction equipment, and in tractors; But Try to test drive the specific machine you are buying. Some of them are already bit jerky when moving from F to R. It can be adjusted on some, but make sure it's something you can live with. BTW, some are very very smooth, that's why I say try the machine.

Kubota's shuttle shift (as stated above) requires clutch depression for directional change & is a dry clutch type
hydraulic shuttle is a wet clutch pack & does not require clutch depression. a wet clutch pack is considered more long lived than the dry type.

That was my understanding too and that's why I want the wet clutch pack. I had to replace my sync shuttle and now I am having trans problems, no 1st and 2nd, and at about 3K hours.

I thought MF offered a Utility with a wet clutch pack? Exactly what does "power shuttle" mean? I found a couple of MF with "power shuttle" but they have cabs. Can't get a cab in my barn and tractor will spend a lot of time in the woods. A cab would be nice but not $10K nice!

Yes, 18am series, the 1840M is offered with a Powet Shuttle. In the 28M series, the 2850 and 2860M are offered with power shuttle. The 18E and 28E have dry clutch Shuttles. On the 18M series, it is the 40M that offers it.

The 18E and 28E, as well as the 26, series are a complete different machine than the 18M and 28M, even though they share very similar names.

Power Shuttle is a clutchless Shuttle, hydralic wet clutch system. You would need to do your own research, as you May need to run a clutch peddle for PTO and Range, but I belive they all have electronic PTO engagement, and I'm 90% sure you can change the range at "low speed" without a clutch, and they may not even have a clutch peddle.

The LS MT357 has a button you press when shifting, so I don't know if it's an electronic dry clutch, or a true wet system?

Just as a historical note, all of the 18hp and up Yanmars sold in the 1980s by dealers in the US had a shuttle plus power shift accomplished with hydraulic wet clutch/syncros between the gears in the gearbox. They did also have a standard dry flywheel clutch - but it was only used for initial shifting into an optional creeper range, for starting safety & as a PTO clutch. To this day, those old powershift transmissions are pretty much bulletproof.

This was back before they started building tractors for JD.

Power Shuttles have been used on forklifts, front end loaders, back hoes, ect since 1970s or so, and are rarely the source of a catastrophic failure.

For our OP, I would recommend looking at the Massey 18M and/or 28M power shuttles. I would also try to find out more about the LS MT357. Yes, they are on the larger end of compact utilities (MT3 and MF 28E), but the 18M is definitely well within the Compact market. I think i read some of the 4 series Deeres are as well, but those might be straddling the line of Utility tractor.

My Kubota M6040 has what they call hydraulic shuttle. Some functions require use of the clutch - some do not.

I make it easy. Being an old stick shift guy - I use the clutch for all functions on the Kubota.

Lots of 1840M and 2850/2860M open stations, and they really are nice machines, kinda falling between a compact and a utility.

All the new Oja Mahindras use a wet clutch but they are electronic.
For a shuttle type, the 6065 and 6075 utilize such but are more hp than you asked about.
Their new 3000 series may fit the bill but they are not here in the states yet.
The 6000 series came out in 2018 so there may be some used ones around. They were offered in cab and cab-less.
A 2024 left over should run less than 40k
