445 cam gear

99 445, do they have the plastic or steal cam gear? ANything to look for on a used one with 800 hrs?

A 99 came with plastic and with 800 hrs I would bet they were replaced. I think 2000 was the year they changed over. I am open to corrections by anyone with more or better info!!!!

Thats what I thought too. Dealer is telling me that the 445's had the steal gear and the 425 had the plastic.

445's did have plastic gear (according to parts book). Does seem like a lot of hours to not have been replaced yet.

I have read that the change occured in in the end of 1997 - and was made to all 425 and 445 engines. However, I don't have anything to support this absolutely

I have my 2000 apart as we speak and it has a metal in it.

Mine had a plastic gear and when it let go it was a mess... The dealer was good on fixing it and it seems to be fine now, although I hardly use it now. My identical 455 will do twice the work and uses half the fuel... Anyone in the market for a 445?

I'd be more willing to bet at 800 hours it's probably about ready to go out anytime.
