I have read and re read the owners manual and just don't understand ... how does the 3 point float? Or doesn't it??

It does automatically, There is NO downpressure on most all 3PH's...Try this: go lower your 3PH all the way, then try to lift the arms with your hands-you will be able to easily.

I do agree, however when I do this ... lower the 3 point all the way ... my corn planter is planting on a china mans hat!!!

I need to set a depth ... 1.5 inches in the ground and maintain that ... IT AIN'T WORKIN ...

I lower the hitch to said point, so places are 1.5 inches and as the contour changes the seed is on top of the ground ...

Sounds like maybe you should be using draft control along with the position control. I don't know if your implement will put enough load on the system to work correctly, but it is worth a try.

like Brian said you need to use your draft control. I know it works for my 2 bottom plow but havent used it for any other ground engaging equipement.

I doubt very much that draft control with work with a planter. You will probably need to put a guage wheel on the planter to maintain depth control. With the tractor 3pt lever all the way down and the tires/wheels carrying it.

Draft control works then the plow starts to pull to hard pushing the toplink in towards the tractor. It takes a lot of push for that to happen, a planter does not have that kind of pressure on it.

The draft has a very heavy leaf spring it's working against to get the draft lever to engage. Maybe build a leaf that isn't the heavy thing that is in there to adjust the draft control to lower specs? Just a suggestion...
