This happened a half year ago ..... http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/john-deere-owning-operating/358732-4310-runs-9-seconds-dies.html ....and now I'm stuck again.

I have verified that the timer module cuts power to the fuel shutoff solenoid pull-in coil after a couple seconds, as it should, but the hold-in coil loses power after another 10 seconds at which point the tractor quits of course....no fuel. If I pull the solenoid the tractor starts and runs normally until the fuel is manually shut off. Those 2 coils get power thru the engine run relay which is energized by the computer. What condition is the computer sensing that causes it to shut off power to the solenoid? Or is something else going on? The 2 main circuits that initially feed that relay, the neutral switch (bypassed) and seat switch circuits are working properly. Also, unrelated or related??.... the hydraulics work but the tractor won"t move during any of the run time whether the shut off solenoid is properly mounted or pulled. There are no error codes.

Might be the diodes? Transmission neutral? Seat switch? Parking break switch?

Those switches checked out OK. The V1 diode block is passing 12 volts to the timer module, so I presume it's OK. I did find out an interesting tidbit today though. If you place a spare fuse in the F12 slot (on a 4310....don't know what else), the tractor goes into a diagnostic mode, and will run for only "about" 10 seconds. Enough of a coincidence that I checked for any kind of piece of junk that might have jumped that fuse spot. I'm having JD plug into the computer tomorrow. I'm gonna lose a driveway if I don't get this tractor running.

Turns out they couldn't plug into the computer in the field so ran diagnostic checks which ended up at a "bad" controller/computer.....it is sending erratic/weak voltage to the run relay coil. (Jumping that relay's switch circuit was a temporary fix.) Plugging a new controller in tomorrow, which, presumably, will fix everything. Now I need to win the lottery to pay for the JD visit and new controller.....and the gravel I'm losing on the driveway in these rains. :D

$554....I think

Ouch, I would tell them if it doesn't fix it, I ain't buying it. Also, ask for the old part. Maybe some circuit board guru can fix it and sell it on ebay.

A lot of times in cars, they'll point to the body control module as the culprit, but after replacing it, it won't fix it and they have to find a short. Usually a wire rubbed through onto something else. Then they charge you for all the troubleshooting labor AND the new BCM...

Does your fuel solenoid system have a Thermister?
