I can buy a 2003 JD 4310 with FEL, hydro, and about 2400 hrs for $8250. I ran the machine just a bit to see how PTO worked, if hydro was strong, and if engine seemed to run okay without smoke. Everything seemed solid. What are your overall thoughts on the machine? Anything I should look for? How is the price at 8,250?

The price seems fair considering the high hours. 420 or the heavier duty 430 loader? Machinefinder and Tractorhouse are the best place to compare prices, but they are usually retail.

It is the 430 loader. Should the hours concern me? I plan on having this tractor for a while and don't want to have it breaking down all the time.

I have a '99 4300, basically the same tractor, same loader, about 1100 hours. Just spent $400 yesterday getting the loader lift cylinders rebuilt because they would leak down and the loader would drop. The curl cylinders are almost there too but not yet. All my plastics are cracking, hood, side panels, grille, cowl panels. It's looking 20 years old basically. With all that said, I'm hoping to sell mine in the spring for around $11k, with loader and belly mower. So your price is probably a good buy.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I am going to be moving on this deal.

'98 4300 here, and no plastic problems so far. Very solid tractor, but closer to 1200 hours.
When new, the instrument panel was replaced for fogging problem, and the dealer mechanic broke a plastic tab which I epoxy'd back with some fiberglass for strength. No additional plastic breakage, but it is kept inside. Not sure that is the difference.
Had a dead limb fall on the hood and there was no damage (very slight scuff mark). If hood was metal, there would indeed have been a dent like happened with my old 2cyl 420.

Your deal sounds well worth it, and hope you find it that way as well.

I had a 4410 a couple years ago with 4500hrs on it, bought it for 5000 with no loader, installed a new 300cx loader and sold machine for 12000. it ran perfect and was tight with no leaks.
