I am just about ready to take the plunge. But I just wanted to ask a couple of dumb questions.

1. THe 4310 has a lot of "bells and whistles" on it. load match, speed match, motion match and so on. Does any one know if these give any problems? And will they be dependable for years to come.

2. Also (and please do not yell) how does the JD compair to the Agco or MF? I hear a lot of talk about the bota, and have ruled it out becaue of the dealer. The MF, and Agco have great dealerships here. JD is so so.

thanks for your help I have enjoyed reading for about a year.

So when are you gonna ask the "dumb" questions?

Haven't heard of any problems. I have to say that these are some really awesome features, not just bells and whistles. You have to live with them a little to see how great they are. Not only do they offer performance enhancements, but they are also very ergonomic.

Normally, you want the best dealer, then equipment. A great dealer can make regular equipment really shine.

But Deere is really strong as a company, nobody touches their support. Agco isn't really as strong a player. But their compacts aren't bad machines (as far as I know...) Looking at the two on the web tells what I am talking about. With Deere, you can easily locate full specs, MSRP, configurations, options, compare to competitors, download the owners manuals, and look up parts on the online parts catalog. Agco lets you see a postage stamp, by comparison. Does any of that matter? It actually did to me, and I still enjoy being able to do those things from home.

Maybe it would be worth it to use Deere's locater to see if there are any other dealer choices, as well.

I am thrilled with my 4310. There are lots of satisfied Agco owners out there too.

Hey Mike, how do you download the manual?

That is in compacts only. They are growing every years with more and more offering. Their tractors (MF mainly) are big sellers in the rest of the world, this is a global economy. A fancy web site doen't mean anything, look at Agricat. Drive them all before you chose the one for you. But most of all make sure that you have a good dealer. The best tractor in the world is worth very little without a good dealer.

I didn't mean the website in itself, I was referring to the support tools that Deere offers. If the local dealer is great, but doesn't have complete specs, it might be that a buyer ends up with a product that isn't what he expected. Deere's online specs are a real asset. Online parts is really amazing. I can look them up at my shop, right by the machine, and order them. Its tools like these that set Deere apart.

You are right, that MF AGCO is a strong player, I was really meaning in the compact area. And in some ways, that seems to be further hampered by the dealers, not that many Deere dealers are strong in the CUT area, either...

Mike,
I've done that but it only saves a link. Is there any way to save the whole manual?

Once I have the manual open I chose File/Save as... It put a html document on my hard drive, When I go to that and open it it opens in a web browser window, but it shows my local drive as the url...

HEy Fluff - I've recently gotten the 4310 with eHydro and the features you've mentioned. I haven't had a lot of experience with the tractor yet, just 10 hours - but I will put a plug in here for the Load Match feature. It's a help to a beginner like myself from lugging the engine and to keep the power in a useful range.

I also 2nd what other folks have said - find a product you like along with the dealer. I wouldn't dismiss Bota if there happens to be another dealer nearby. There are 4 brands out there that I shopped NH, Bota, Deere, and Kioti. I liked them all - it was just the combo of the Deere's fit and features that sold me. But the dealer network really sealed it for me. I've got 3 dealers within 45 minutes, with the closest about 7 miles away. They were all good shops. I'm obviously pleased with what I ended up with, you will be to if you listen to some of these very experienced folks around this board and find the combination thats right for you. IMHO you won't go wrong with a Deere - but I also think that goes for the other big players as well. If Kioti has a good dealer by you they are really worth a look as well.

Please keep us posted - it's always fun to watch other folks end up with a great product. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The 4000-TEN series was the first time JD offered the features like Loadmatch, Speedmatch, etc. so there really hasn't been enough time for owners to judge their reliability.
But I'm sure JD put a lot of time and expense into research and development for those type of features, and I trust them enough to have confidence in their products. When I bought a new car back in 1985, it was the first one I had ever owned with electronic fuel injection, power windows, seats, speed control, etc. When I sold it twelve years later, all those items were still working, with only one repair over the years. You can likely expect the same or better reliability from electronics after 20 years of development.

Not to quibble, but it was a first for CUTs, They were on construction equipment for a while....

Thanks for the clarification, would anyone know how long ago JD began installing them on construction equipment?

I love my 4310 eHydro. As for all the bells and whistles,
Most of them are switches which feed into the Electronic Control Module which just tells it to behave one way or another based on the internal programming. I wouldn't
think that switches are too expensive to replace.
As for the manuals, I wish that John Deere would go the way of a lot of other manufacturers have done and put their manuals on line in PDF format. That way I can print my own
working copy that I can write on or mark up as I see fit
while using it in the shop. If a page or two gets too dirty,
just print it again.

Yeah - but Rocky.. They removed the 4000 series manuals - any idea where those are?

(I've got a 4600)

Thanks!
