When I start my 4310, the battery light stays on, and the tachometer doesn't work, but everything else works just fine (lights, blinkers). The engine cranks like it has a full charge. Any thoughts?

Sounds like an alternator failure, or the wiring between it and the
instrument cluster.

On my 4300, the tach and alternator use the same wiring.

Your tractor will continue to start until the battery is run down.

Ah yes...once again I forget that diesels run on compression and don't need electricity to spark each cylinder.

But you DO need the electrical system working to operate your
fuel cutoff solenoid, and various parts of the HST, PTO, etc. That
is why your symptoms point more toward the specific alternator-
related failure.

Yeah, the alternator belt was chewed up and came off. I'm actually pretty embarrassed that I asked such a lazy question. Thanks for the responses...

Always glad to hear about the easy/cheap fixes. A belt is much better than an alternator.
