When we were deciding between the 4210 and the 4310, we found a difference of about $1,000 in price between the two, for again a 3-4 hp difference. HOWEVER, there is also a big difference between the 4210 and 4310 in (1) hydraulic capacity, and (2) loader/backhoe capacity (i.e., can put bigger loader/backhoe on 4310). We also thought about the 4410, but as you said the only real difference appears to be about 3-4 hp. Others have said they would really like to have the additional hp of the 4410, but we certainly haven't had any problems with what we've got in the 4310.
The question remains, then, as to the discrepancy in price difference going 4210-4310, versus 4310-4410; I'm wondering if part of the reason is simply a sales volume/production issue. I'm GUESSING that of the mid-sized 4X10 series, more 4310s are sold than either of the other two. If this is the case, the 4310 may simply be relatively cheaper because of sales volume.

Mopar,

I printed the specs on both tractors and then laid them side by side. Here is what I found.

It looks like the 4310 comes standard with a syncshift 9/3. Where the 4410 comes with a e-power reverser. Can't tell you the difference or if your dealer quoted the option on the 4310 to make it equal.

The only other thing was a 100 pounds if weight.

Now I know that sometimes the availability of products and the market (supply and demand) can effect pricing.

But your right, 3 hp for $2600 is a lot to swallow or understand. I was told that John Deere Green paint was awful expensive, maybe they needed another can of paint for the 4410. No pun intended. I like John Deere also.

Mopar... I agree with Murph, When put side by side there is no real difference between the two... same frame, same tires and wheels, same hydralics, etc., seems like the only difference is the HP! n I bought the 4310 and love it! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The same thing applies to the Kubotas 3130 and 3430, about 4 HP or 3.3 X3.6 and 3.4 X3.6 bore/stroke. The difference in cost is about $1000 as well. If you don't need the cab that only comes with the 3430 in those 2 models, it seems like a lot of extra to pay for that little bump in power. I was looking at the JD 4410, now I'll look at the JD 4310 instead. What are the specs for the loader that goes with this tractor? Rat...

( I had a 4300 and used a 5' SQ60 bushhog (lighter duty) It was all it wanted in thick stuff. I now have a 4400 and it handles it alot better but I would go any bigger for the HP )

That is what one individual had to say on the John Deere owning operating thread.

Just like everyone else has said. The only difference is 3 hp. Thats why I went with the 4310. Just got it last week but i am sure i will be happy.

Talk to Mark Brucker at KC-Canary [(518)853-3405]and he will tell you the difference. He really is that good. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

One other difference besides the engine HP is engine torque. 4310 is rated at 73.1ft.lb. The 4410 is rated at 81.0 ft.lb....second highest only to the 4710 rated at 86.3ft.lb. That extra torque could make a difference under certain operating conditions and may be worth the couple extra thousand to some who need that extra oomph.

Hey wait Bob, isn't there a 4510 and 4610 in there? Are you saying they are less or equal then the 4410 in terms of torque. Good point about torque, perhaps a more valuable way to evaluate a tractor then just HP. Rat...

Rat,

According to the documents that I have the 4410 is rated for more torque than the 4510 or 4610. Torque is "force x distance" - which, in a tractor, is driven by the combustion force on the piston x the length of the crank throw (as a first approximation) The per cyclinder displacement for the 4410 (3 cyl) is the same as the 4510 or 4610 (4cyl) - so it is reasonable to expect that the torque ratings would be about the same. I'm not sure why the 4410 is higher (compression ratio? valve timing? longer crank throw? Fuel Pump calibration? any other thoughts?) - but I wouldn't expect it to be much lower. The 4310 has the same displacement as the 4410 - so there is something they are doing to generate more "force" in each cylinder of the 4410. Note - the 4710 has the highest torque of all - but at 2.2L for 4 cyclinders it has the largest displacement per cylinder.

Horsepower is "torque per unit of time" - so more cyclinders equals more power (assuming equal rpm) That is why the 4 cylinders have more power than the 3 cyclinders.

I think I have all of that correct. Any other opinions?
