4300 Loader Problem

My Uncle has a newer JD 4300 HST with a front end loader.

The tractor works well except for the loader.

The loader does not "stay up" when loaded. Is there a valve or something that I can adjust?

Here is a link to the Deere technical page that deals with this issue. John Deere Tips & Troubleshooting They give some details as to how to determine if the problem is in the SCV or the cylinders.

I suspect that your uncle will need to rebuild the boom cylinders. I have had to rebuild all four cylinders on my 430 loader as have several other folks here on the forum.

Thank you for the information...I have a nearly new 4210 with a 420 FEL and have been leaving the bucket at full height with the tractor engine off while working on my roof. I was concerned about the settling but according to the link you provided my JD is within normal range.

No where near enough that I should have had to do it. The tractor and loader were bought new in September of 2000. I rebuilt the curl cylinders in May 2003 and the boom cylinders shortly after. I imagine that the tractor had about 650 hours at the time.

The problem is that an o-ring installed under the piston ring to tension the piston ring against the cylinder wall failed.

Deere supplied an o-ring made of a different material in the rebuild kit. Fortunately, the parts only cost about $15 per cylinder and the process is pretty straightforward, once you figure out how the cylinder comes apart.
