430 Loader getting looser

   / 430 Loader getting looser #21
Just thought I would give you an update.
I found some thicker flat stock and changed the length and bends slightly to hold in position better. Works better with one piece of material on each side.
It also seems to have reduced the gaps in the other contact points.
This "fix" is only temporary, but it sure has tightened things up. I've been moving a lot of snow lately, and I can feel the difference.

Chuck

In picture 3 of this post, you have a crack on the front of the clamp. I would think that is why it is getting loose....

nmu98- Wow, you had me wondering on that one! I went out and looked at it carefully. Looks like a paint chip where some rust has worked it's way under from a scrape.
Good eyes, I never saw that in the pic.
Thanks.

Possibly, but I'm going to say paint chip/crack.

Lets hope!

I would remove that paint there and look at it with a magnifying glass. The iron could be fractured where you might not see it. Since your loader is loose, and that crack is in the perfect spot to make it loose.. Well.... Either that, it could have spread open without cracking, and cracked the paint... It looks like something moved there to cause that, not just rust... JMHO

I noticed that crack in the paint also and wondered if the metal beneath it was also cracked. I'm not a ME, but that part of the claw looks to me to be "underdesigned", meaning it doesn't look to be as strong as it should be. I guess the JD ME's did their math on that component and designed it to handle the stress and forces it as intended for?? Or maybe not???

I have NEVER heard of one cracking.

I second that...that does not look like a scratch.

I had a 990 with the 430 loader, mine did the exact same thing. I called the dealer, they sent someone (1 1/2 hours, one way) and when the tech got to looking at it he said that shouldn't be like that at all. He left and the next day, a flat bed truck showed up and they took the tractor back, repaired it and had it back at my farm in 2 days. This showed me two things, one, that JD must have had knowledge of the problem, because there was never a question of "what have you been doing with..." and the second thing is that the dealership Padula Bros. in Lunenburg,Ma, is a top notch ofit. As I said, there was never a question, it was more like, hey we're really sorry that this happened. It was really nice to know that there are still dealerships like that out there.

Oh yeah, never had the problem again.

Seems like you all have seen something I've missed completely!

First I thank you all for your observations. I never would have guessed that this would be revealed in the pic.

Second, I'm going to take it out in good light and examine it more carefully, as you suggested nmu98.

That side is looser than the other so now I'm suspicious.

Besides the magnifying glass, are there any other simple methods to reveal a crack? I was thinking of putting it under stress and looking at it.

Just pick at it with your knife blade.

Still think it's a paint crack.
