I may be picking up a 4210 to replace my ole 1700 Ford, and I want to make sure it as at least same or better capabilites than the 1700. I do a lot of FEL work, snow, brush, etc, and run a 5' bushhog mowing 8 acres of horse field. From what I've read, the 4210 should have about the same power and weight as my old 1700. I need the hydro (knees not what they used to be), and new enough to get a cab for.
Thanks

The only "bad" thing I've read about the 4210 is it lacks power for it's size. If I recall correctly, it's about 28 Engine (Gross) HP and 23 at the PTO. This machine weighs about 2500 lb (sans FEL).

Personally, I think the 4310 is a better machine for the size and weight.

As long as you're okay with the power, and it's a eHydro, you will LOVE it. Remember that the hydro will soak a little more of the output power that the gear model though. One of the best features of the eHydro is the "LoadMatch" so you'll never stall it no matter how bad you overload it.

OleBlue,

I have stated my disdain for the 4210 concept on several forums, but I really do LIKE the tractor. The biggest problem with the machine is that it has to deal with a lot of chassis weight AND power attachments with limited horsepower. If your terrain is fairly flat, you will find the performance adequate, if not better. If you have to deal with hills and/or erratic terrain, but prepared to take your time. The 4210 will do it, but it will be slow. The 4210 has LoadMatch though, and you would need it, so it is a nice addition. My fellow posters (and myself too) have felt that the 4310 offers so much more performance for so little extra money, that we usually recommend it. But, if you have a lead on a good 4210, you might not have that option. In its defense, the 4210 is way overpowered compared with many older machines. My neighbor has an old Ford 2WD tractor that weighes every bit of 4000 pounds and has a 20 horse gasoline engine. He does everything slow and the machine does well. I do not personally know the stats on your current machine, but it may be a real upgrade to have 28 diesel horsepower, and 4WD. In short, I do not dissuade you from this, but be prepared that the machine might labor in certain circumstances, especially with the hydro. Good luck.

Thanks for everyone's input, I went ahead and pulled the trigger last night on it, so hopefully I can get it shipped here shortly. The problem is finding a good used 30hp range CUT with hydro is it's like finding hen's teeth. And when you do find one, they want an arm and leg for it. A 4310 would have been quite a bit more than I got this one for ('01, 4210, 600 hrs, 420 bucket, 5' box blade, & rock rake for $13,800). I'm sure they're out there, but you gotta be in the right place at the right time.

Half of my property is fairly wooded and at times the 1700 is almost too large to get around. The hydro and PS, and QD bucket are going to be the biggest upgrades. I fully expect the power to be a little more than my 1700, just cause of the age of my 1700, but it still does the job.

After it gets here, my next order will be for a WR Long valve kit so I put my ATI bucket grapple on it, and a cab!! WOOHOOO!!

Thanks again, I'm sure I'll be back here soon, asking dumb questions. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
