I was digging potatoes today and noticed my tractor won't go into 4wd. The shift lever moves but it doesn't engage and the light doesn't come on either.
What happened?

Hopefully the light bulb burnt out, but I doubt your going to get that lucky.
Good luck with it.

Does the lever have resistance when moving? Could it have a broken linkage?

The roll pin in the linkage was broken. It moved the shifter shaft a little but not all the way. Fixed it.

Exact same thing happened on my tractor a couple of years ago. Easy fix once you find out why it won't work. Sometimes finding the problem is more than half the battle.
