I am going to buy, I think tomorrow a 4100 with 892 hours on it, and R4 tires for $8500. Is this a fair price? They say its a 2001, I thought they stopped in 2000, but on the Deere site, it lists 2001's in a couple of places, so don't know if they means they were made in 2001 or just sold in 2001. But anyway I don't want to pay too much, so thought I would ask. Oh yes they say it has a mid PTO, but I don't need that, so it won't be worth much to me.

pruntyc,

I think these days its a buyers market - the 4100 series is an excellent machine have no fear. It came with both mid and rear PTO's as standard. Deere released their replacement line for the 4100, 4110 & 4115 replaced by the new 2320 & 2520 series.
You most likely will notice more availability on the older 4100 and new 4110 to 4115 series. I would say the price is not bad but I think you can get far lower hour machine. Ebay list these machine with lower hours frequently. Take your time and I'm positive you will locate a machine near that price or a few dollars more with less hours. Maybe the dealer is looking to unload some older 4110 (not like they are old at all) for a aggressive price.
Good luck either way - they are one of the best compacts made

Is it a gear tractor or Hydro? Does it have a FEL or no? Does it have a MMM? Any extras at all?

I agree, these things add to price in a hurry if you have to buy them separately. I paid $9,000 for my 1999 4100 gear shift with a 410 loader and 54" MMM (which I wish was a 60") with just under 250 hours on it when I bought it last November. I have not used it to mow with yet, but it has been great with the other chores I've thrown its way.

It's hydro, and there is nothing else with it. But tractors used in this size just isn't in this area. The only ones are the real big and very old, and not many of them. So he kind of has those things working for him. I'm suppose to go there in about an hour, it is about a hours drive to even get to this one. Nothing real close at all.

Pruntyc I was in the same pridicument where my dealer said he's only had 2 CUTS traded in and available ever, so used was going to be a tough find at a dealer. I then watched Ebay until I found this one and closed the deal in person (5 hour drive one way). It's tough because with the financing incentives, a new one may sometimes be something to consider if buying the tractor only /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As an owner of a 2001 4100, I can confirm the existence of said beast /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I have had no issues, except for a leaking solenoid valve in 200 hours and 4 and 1/2 years. Great rig !!!!! Best of luck

Well, this one looked pretty beat. So with that many hours and at that price I passed on it. Just didn't seem like a good deal. I think I will go with another Yanmar, as they are a lot older, but in very good shape. And a lot cheaper. I don't think I would like a hydro, as I have it on one lawn tractor, and I don't like it on it. The Yanmar I am thinking of has power shift, and I think that will be a lot better.
