4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

I read in the manual a technique called "float" or when the FEL is just allowed to sit on the surface with no upward or downward pressure. How do I achieve that? I tried pushing the "joystick" control all the way fwd (lower FEL) and sometimes it works, but not consistently. What's the trick? Does it make sense to use "float"?

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

I guess you haven't got that part of the manual yet...

Anyway, push the loader joystick forward.....you'll feel a slight hesitation as the stick pushes past a detent. Then you'll be in the float position.

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

To get into the float mode, a quick, hard, and fast push forward is needed. Yes it makes sense to use it, like when leveling or smoothing, or pushing snow from the driveway. The loader will follow the contour of the ground.

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

There have been several threads on this: yes, most of us newbies have trouble figuring it out. With the FEL about a foot or so above ground, quickly push the joy stick all the way forward and then slightly right when you feel the detent. After you do it a while, you'll be able to do it every time.

It's a great way to run the bucket for snow plowing, to scrape the surface yet not dig into it.

Hope you also have a bucket level indicator. Mine didn't come with it. I mentioned it to the guy who delivered it. The sales person said I should have had it included and sent it out afterwards.

The float on the 3pt is in the middle, for it to float up. If you want it to float over everything, like with a finish mower back there, I think you leave it in the down position.

Ralph, why push to the right for float?

Also, the 4100 has position control on the 3PH, it is not the same setup as your 4010.

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

As said, full forward on the SCV should put the 410 in "Float". As Ralph says, a foot or so off the ground and a quick full forward push of the lever and you should feel it snap into float as the FEL drops smoothly to the ground. I also use this when parking the 4115. I lift the FEL up a few feet, set the brake, shift to neutral (HST) and turn off the ignition. Then I snap the SCV full forward. This "floats" the FEL down and relieves the hydraulic pressure. Then, pulling back on the SCV and pushing it fwd, back, left, right, relieves most residual pressure.

Any one correct me if I'm wrong but, relieving the pressure this way is a good idea whenever parking (and shutting off) the CUT and should be done whenever you intend to disconnect any of the hydraulic quick connects, such as for removing the FEL. This prevents pressure in the lines from spraying yourself with fluid when you disconnect a line. [NOTE: It is still a good idea to cover any connection with a rag as you disconnect, just in case.]

Ralph...I've never found a need to push to either side, just straight forward, on the 410, on my 4115. May be different on other CUT's...not sure.

Also,

I don't know about the 4100 or 4010, but on the 4115 (as far as I know), there is never any down pressure on the 3ph, other than what force is due to attached implements. IMHO

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

I believe pushing to the right rapidly caused a rapid dump to occur and that there is a detent for that as well. If you go to the right rapidly and down you still end up with "float" occuring. Not sure why though.......I haven't used my loader much this summer, so I am little rusty /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

Garchib--yes rapid dump is a push farthest to the rigfht, but technically there is no "detent" to keep it in that position. There is some sort of resistance to let you know you have opened up that valve all the way, though Once the float detent is set directly forward--12:00--on all the tractors using the 410 loader it holds the joy stick in place.

I've never heard anything about a slight right push for loader float, nor have I ever heard of a 3-PH not floating regardless of the control position. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

That makes sense..it is probably my rustiness showing..the funny thing is I use the loader and do not think about it, so to explain it is tough for me. It is kind of like someone asking you for the details of walking, after awhile it becomes second-nature /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

Funny how I never seem to get a fast dump right away when I want it and it always seems to slip directly to the fast dump when I want to feather it. Operator error, for sure /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

I think the detent is slightly to the right AFTER you get the lever full forward. This is why I said to push slightly to the right. I do it so automatically any more that I don't remember exactly what I do. Think there is a slight movement to the right at the full forward position that it goes into.

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

Here is some info. on what I had with my 4010 (FWIW);

Attempting to locate the detent after delivery proved impossible, and there was no indication of entering "regen" on the dump cycle.

After reviewing the manual, several times, and researching the web, I made small adjustments to the linkages associated with the valve.

The first set of adjustments revealed the float detent, but it was "hard" to enter detent position, required a forceful and quick application, and still no evidence of the "regen."

The second set revealed a smoother entry into float with positive locking of the stick in the forward position and obvious "feeling" of entering "regen."

I guess the linkages were just a little out of adjustment from the factory.

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

Aaaah, I found it. It's a fairly forceful "straight ahead" push of the joystick lever. It's very obvious when you have reached it. Take the lever to what seems like the full fwd position and then press it forward another "notch". You'll clearly feel it lock into "float" and the joystick will remain there until you pull it back. It is very apparent once you've done it. The manual does a poor job of explaining IMO. My guess is my 4100 had rarely, if ever, been put into float, so maybe it was a bit harder to push it forward to that extreme. The fwd and reverse travel of the joystick are about the same. Float is well ahead of the forward position.

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

colorado,

Glad you found the "float" position. Once found, it is pretty identifiable and, comes in handy for some smoothing/levelling. Also, as I said, it is very useful for relieving the hydraulic pressure in the lines if you set everything to "park" position, lift the FEL a couple of feet, turn off the motor, and then snap the SCV into the "float".

As for any "quick dump" or "detent" slightly to the right, I tried that repeatedly today. Unless my 410 is not adjusted correctly, there is no "quick dump" or "detent" to the right, with the SCV, only the forward "float".

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

.........the quick dump seems to be propaganda to me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I am sure someone will disagree, but it is not a detent per se, it's simply when you move the SCV lever to the right rapidly it is supposed to do a "quick dump". Maybe one of the more knowledeable guru(s) could pipe-in......

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

it would be a 'hidden' feature as I've not seen it mentioned in any manuals.. 4100 nor 410

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

....it exists....if you do a search on this forum / board, you will find discussions on it. The only reason I knew about it is my sales person explained it to me several years ago after I bought the tractor.

Re: 4100 w/ 410 FEL - how do I \"float\"

The fast dump is really called "REGEN", short for a regenerative hydraulic circuit. There is NO DETENT for it, it is just a matter of how far you push the stick to the right.
There is however a lockout for it to keep the stick from going over into the REGEN position, it is used when a front hydraulic blade or a snowblower with hydraulically controlled chute rotation are used.

There has been lots of discussion on this in all the forums, and picture of the lockout posted in this forum in the past.

Do a search for "REGEN" for lots of reading, just remember to set the date range to "ALL POSTS", as it defualts to 1 week.
