I just got a price check from my local dealer on a new (leftover) 4100 4x4 hydrostatic, 410 loader with standard bucket, 54" MMM, hood guard, block heater installed, delivered to my driveway-- for $15023. Let me know-- is this an average deal, good deal, or great deal. Thanks in advance.

Seriously? I got this reply from jmgerken:
"that’s a great price. I paid a thousand more for the same thing." 14000 for all of that seems way low-- did you get that price? Let me know the dealer!

That is close to what I paid for mine a year ago.... Let's see, 4100HST, R4s, FEL with 60" bucket, 54" MMM, 4 suitcase weights, 58" LandPride Tiller, and hood guard for ~$16.5. Knock off $1500 for the tiller and we're close.

What I'm suggesting is that you low ball the offer and see if he counters with a something under the $15k. Make sure you're in front of him with your checkbook to show that you mean business. If he knocks off another few hundred dollars, that's money in your pocket.

Terry-- I think I'll do that. What are you using for counter weight in the rear when you use the loader? Just curious.

Either my 60" rear blade or the JD Ballast box.

If I'm moving lighter materials or clearing brush or the like, I'll use the rear blade. It weights about 300# and is sufficient. When I'm moving heavier materials like crushed stone or asphalt millings, I use the ballast box. I filled it with 5 bags of quickrete. So that gives me around 575-600#s when necessary.

There have been a few discussions concerning this topic and you may have read them. The implement of choice for ballast is a box blade. If you know how to weld or have a friend who welds, you can pick up some scrap steel and weld one up. I looked at doing that a while back and the cost of the materials was close to $100 for me. So, I chose to buy the JD model at $150.

OBTW, get a toothbar too.... highly indispensable. Just like the FEL.

Terry, thanks again for the help. You paid $150 for the JD box blade? That seems like it is a good deal-- for winters, I can use it to clean up light snowfall, in combination with the front blower that I plan to get-- in the future of course. Do you have a link to a picture or your model box blade, or do you know the model number. That might be what I try to get the dealer to throw in.

Maybe it depends on where your driveway is for that delivery. I didn't find it in your profile./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Texblonigan,

Hmmm... maybe my post wasn't very clear.

A JD ballast box is just an empty box that you fill with the material of your choice. It is not a box blade. In previous posts by the some of the esteeemed TBN members, they suggest that the use of of box blade is more suitable that a ballast box. It depends upon your situation. If you need to use a box blade alot to keep a road in good shape, then that might be the way to go. In my case, I have no need for a box blade so I chose the ballast box instead.

I think you should be getting this tractor for next to wholesale. With the new ones out these are like buying a new car that is last years model. They usually sell close to invoice or below. If you are going to spend the $15k I'd make it the 10 series no doubt. You are now buying a discontinued model which is also going to be significantly less with resale as well.
