Nuru,

OK, I stand corrected. That is a DEEP discount for the 4100 gear (about 25% off list, I think). My opinion would be that you should go for the 4100, with a preference for the HST.

Good luck.

Thanks Rob. I will try to get the dealer to go for a discount on the 4100 HST, if not, I may just go with the manual and just handle it.

Congrats on the new machine...

What got you to change your mind for the HST?

At least you can practice with the rear blade until you get the mower...

John, I actually got a front plow blade for snow. what changed my mind was a lot of posts here and on other sites about the convenience of the HST. Additionally, this tractor si a little big for my yard with its trees and I like to do things real quick, so I bit. Lastly potential better resale capability.

Yep, go for a rear 3-point finish mower for at least half the price...

Look at your property layout and come up with a couple different "mowing attack" patterns so you can take advantage of the 3-point vs mid-mount...

Then give the kids a couple bucks to do the close-up/finish work around trees and shrubs with the push mower... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
{and you'll still be money ahead!}

Nuru,

I tend to agree with John. Well excepting for one small detail. The topography of your property. If you have open spaces and not many trees and other obstacles to mow around, a 3pt finish mower is the way to go. If you have a lot of trees or other things that make cutting a pain, you may have to consider the MMM. Consider this, the rear finish mower is going to hang off of the back of your tractor 5 to 6 feet. When you make a sharp turn, it swings wide and so you may have go back a recut some areas or you may have to pay attention and not bang into things.

Or you can take the minimalist approach, use the 4100 to take out all of the obstacles and have nice straight mowing areas. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
