Nuru,

OK, I stand corrected. That is a DEEP discount for the 4100 gear (about 25% off list, I think). My opinion would be that you should go for the 4100, with a preference for the HST.

Good luck.

Thanks Rob. I will try to get the dealer to go for a discount on the 4100 HST, if not, I may just go with the manual and just handle it.

Congrats on the new machine...

What got you to change your mind for the HST?

At least you can practice with the rear blade until you get the mower...

John, I actually got a front plow blade for snow. what changed my mind was a lot of posts here and on other sites about the convenience of the HST. Additionally, this tractor si a little big for my yard with its trees and I like to do things real quick, so I bit. Lastly potential better resale capability.

Thanks John! Got any idea where I can get a cheap mower deck?

Yep, go for a rear 3-point finish mower for at least half the price...

Look at your property layout and come up with a couple different "mowing attack" patterns so you can take advantage of the 3-point vs mid-mount...

Then give the kids a couple bucks to do the close-up/finish work around trees and shrubs with the push mower... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
{and you'll still be money ahead!}

Nuru,

I tend to agree with John. Well excepting for one small detail. The topography of your property. If you have open spaces and not many trees and other obstacles to mow around, a 3pt finish mower is the way to go. If you have a lot of trees or other things that make cutting a pain, you may have to consider the MMM. Consider this, the rear finish mower is going to hang off of the back of your tractor 5 to 6 feet. When you make a sharp turn, it swings wide and so you may have go back a recut some areas or you may have to pay attention and not bang into things.

Or you can take the minimalist approach, use the 4100 to take out all of the obstacles and have nice straight mowing areas. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

You guys have me thinking about it. I might be able to get away with it. I have few trees that are really in my way.

Since the tires are running over the grass before I mow it, does this become a factor?

Thanks

Nuru,

No, not really. The blades create a bit of a vacuum effect drawing up the grass prior to cutting.

Thanks, i will keep that in mind. I am finding pricing of $1450 for 54" MMowers and $2100 for the 60" Mmowers. What are the prices for the rear mounts?

/ 4100 manual Vs GT 455 Vs BX2200 #36
Nuru,

As you can see, you would have to pay $700+ dollars for a 60" mmm. $700 can buy you other implements!! If you buy the rear finish mower, you could end up with ~$1400. Now, you can buy twice as much stuff!!

Decisions.... decisions..... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Hmmmmm, rear mount, less garage storage space, money for post-hole digger, more money for loader stash, mid mount no additional garage storage space, but no post-hole digger and no loader money stash,

Rear mount - less trees left in yard, midmount cost more, hmmmm.

Nuru,

Welcome to the wide, wide, world of making decisions on implements!! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Sometimes the information overload just muddles the mind. Go to the dealers, listen to their recommendations and general pricing, get the pretty colored glossies, and finally, sit down and figure out what makes sense. That's half the fun! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
