4046HC electrical problem

Could be your power antenna not shutting down after retracting. That would plain working fine until shut down. I do not think it is a good idea to tie the front and back speakers together. They may have separate internal amps and the single speaker tied to both amps may create an impedance problem and eventually burn out the final amp circuit. Sometimes the radio is made to operate only on one specific set of speakers and adjust the fade to only that set. Others with more knowledge my cone along and correct this!

I agree with this. Don't tie F&R speaker wires together. Just use one pair (1+ and 1-) for each speaker. For the unused speaker wires on the radio put a wire nut or electrical tape on each one individually. The factory cab antenna is not a power antenna (unless you added a power antenna) the antenna just plugs into the antenna jack on the radio. There will be wires on the radio you won't need. Separately wire nut each unused wire. You will only need to use the following wires.
1 - 12V constant to retain radio memory channels
1 - 12V switched wire (goes on and off with the key sw.)
1 - ground
4 - wires for speakers (one plus and minus wire to each speaker) The radio may have 4 pairs of wires. 2 pair for front and 2 pair for rear speakers. Unless you've added 2 more speakers you are only going to use 2 pairs.
1 - antenna

If you add an external amp and more speakers then you will need to use other wires on the radio.

Ok, I'll pull the second set of speaker wires. I don't have a power antennae or a second set of speakers so now I gather those shouldn't be spliced into anything else. I had it hooked up originally just as George explained but that blew my fuse. I didn't have anything other that the wires above plugged in, no power antennae or second set of speakers. It's possible I had a set of speaker wires flipped, I know for sure that I had the power, ground, and memory wires correct. Would flipping the + and - on a speaker wire blow a fuse? After that I thought knowing the the power, memory, and ground where good it might have blown because the power antennae cable was shorting out somehow or the extra speaker wires so I plugged them all in. Not so good of luck with the power antennae which I agree with vwnotrunning, seems like the only reason it would blow when I shut it down rather than powering it on, so I pulled that and it worked last night through a couple cycles. I'll disconnect the rear speaker wires and tape them off tonight to be safe and report back. Thanks for all of the help everyone. Hopefully this discussion helps someone else's install go a little smoother.

Flipping the plus and minus on the speakers only changes the speaker polarity. The speaker will still work just not the way it should. You only need to hook up the wiring I mentioned in post 12. All other wires from the radio can be taped or wire nutted individually. Don't connect any of the unused wires together.

I started a new thread in the LS section on Radio Wiring for cab models with the pin out of the factory radio plug and pics.
I know this wiring is accurate for all 3000 series cabs and may be the same for the 4000 series cabs. Just look at your plug to see if colors are the same.
