4020 vs 4320

I have some of this on another thread but I wanted to get a bit more specific. The 4020 seems to be really, really well thought of by most. I found a local 4320 in apparently good shape. Would you be as pleased with a 4320 as you would the 4020? Are there any negatives to the 4320 that dont come with the 4020? thanks

You can go to Tractordata.com and it will give you the specs. for each tractor. I own a 65 4020 with PS and it's a tough and cheap tractor to own. No ac to break down, no computers to go bad, just a simple tractor. If the price and condition of the tractor is right, I would buy the better deal. Not alot of diff. between the two. What I have found with a good running older tractor is that you can sell if for what you bought it for.

No powershift on the 4320. I have owned both; I prefer the 4320.

The 4320 was marketed by John Deere as the "Super 4020". The 4320 was turbocharged to give it 116-hp. and had final drives strengthened to handle the additional horsepower. I would love to own a 4320 some day. Since everybody goes head-over-heels for the 4020 and I would want something different like the 4320, plus it has a turbo.

The 4020 is a true classic, however. RickB is correct on the lack of a powershift transmission on the 4320. The powershift has both its fans and haters. I personallly like them.

Not to be confused with the current-model 4320, which is a large-frame CUT with 48 HP or so (varies by year). Since there's no current 4020, I'm guessing it was correctly assumed that you're talking about the "old" 4320, but thought I should mention the new one for clarification for others (and since I own one, of course).

my brother-in-law has both on his dairy farm. They are nice machines. His biggest complaint about the 4320 is that it is a fuel pig. Other than that, it is bullet-proof.

When I was 14 years old a local farmer let me plow for him on the week ends using his 4320. I thought that was the biggest tractor in the world. We used the same size plow behind a 4020 and a 4320. I recall the 4320 would pull one gear higher than the 4020. I can't remember if it was 4th or 5th gear on the 4320. It also had a year around cab. I still think my hearing loss can be blamed on the noise in the cab. A tank of fuel would only last 5 or 6 hours because we had to fuel up at lunch time. A few years later he bought a one year old 4630 and a 6 bottom plow. That was really the big time.
