Out of curiosity I called my JD dealer and priced a new 4720 with R4s and the new loader. The "without haggling" price was $27,500. Doesn't sound too bad, if you say it real fast /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Definitely don't need a bunch of reverse gears but I did like the low end range that the 12-speed reversers gave. The clutchless reversing was kind of nice too. Looking at the ground speeds of the '05s - around my place they would be basically a non-syncro 4-speed without a granny gear. Looks like just about the entire B range is too high except for road transport use (or maybe raking).

Not bad on the price. Around here I'll bet going rate for that combo will be closer to $28.5K-$29K with haggling.

I like both! But that is the shot i was lookin for!

Am I the only that thinks there really is no difference in visibility?

Can't see how there would be any better visibility.

I snagged the 10 series shot out of a JD publication pdf I had and the 20 series from further up this thread and tried to resize and combine to get the wheelbases pretty close.

Looks to me like the cowl (high point above the steering wheel) is actually higher (although the "dash" itself drops down more - hence the longer 'exposed' steering column) but the front of the hood (and headlight height) seem to be basically the same. Just more of a convex bulge to the hood getting there. Also seems like the fuel filler is going to be at least as high, and probably a few inches higher (remember it's right above the dash).

I think you are wrong. From the looks of the pictures the new one would have quite a bit more front visibility. It's not all in the hood slope, even though it does drop quicker and further. But until you sit on one side by side you'll never know for sure. Just look at the extra visibility on the 6020 series over the 6010,and it does'nt look like all that much difference there either.

Woodbeef - how you figure? Operators position hasn't changed and the front edge of the hood looks to be for practical purposes the same height/distance, so same sight lines. If there's a difference it seems subtle - but you're right in the end it will take a hands-on test to tell for sure.

From what I can tell about the 2 pictures. The 20 looks to be a tad taller than the 10, even though the 20 has smaller/shorter tires. If the 20 is taller and the front of the hoods are both the same height, that could give a better view.

It's really too hard to tell by looking at pics.

Looks to me like the seat is clearly higher on the new series. You can see the bottom of it over the top of the fenders where on the old one you sat down in more. Better visibility though height I guess?

I think you're spotting the front edge of the seat better because the fender grab handles are way smaller on the new units. (Is that an improvement?) The grab on the 4000 ten is kind of blocking the view of the seat front. The tranny/rear end are the same - as is the seat and suspension (I checked part #s). The floor/deck is a new part # but I think essentially the operator's positions are identical.

After careful scrutiny of this thread and the pictures in it, I have come to this conclusion:

The 4710 is by far a much better looking tractor.

I too like the looks of the 4000 Ten series more. I still like the old 4300 I had over the new 4310s though.

Are you a little shocked or something?

Yup gotta agree with you on that point. They have to be the butt-ugliest CUTs going!!! Remind me alot of the ugly 8020 series from deere.

Hey I thought the Deere's had left the good looking stage when the 6000,7000,8000 TEN series had left the arena. Those along with my 970 and 990 are the best looking tractors Deere ever made and some of the best built too.
