4010 and Wallenstein 3pth log spliter

Looking at purchasing a 3pth log splitter for my 4010. I split about 14 bush cord of hardwood/year. My question is will the low gpm of the 4010 run the splitter effeciently or not. Also adding on a power beyond kit. Will this improve its operating ability? I was quoted 350 (cdn) for the PB installed and 800 for the wallenstein splitter. The gpm ( 5.5gpm ) of the tractor is quite alot less than most stand alone splitters( 12-20gpm ) but the Hp and torque is greater on the tractor. not to mention the cost is alot less for the 3pth splitter! I would appreciate your opinions!! i found lots of disscussions but not any input from owners of small cuts who have actually used a 3pt splitter. ( Maybe my first clue of its effectivness or uselessness???)

I bought a three point splitter from Northern Tool about a month ago. To date I have split a little less than two cords (4'x4'x8' - not sure what a "bush cord" is).

Running it on a John Deere 4300 using the power beyond I can extend the cylinder (4x24) fully in 9 seconds at rated speed (2700). If I run wide open I can reduce the stroke time to 8 seconds, but 9 seconds is fast enough for what I have to do. I've never bothered to time a full cycle since I'm usually getting another log or moving the log back for another pass while the cylinder is returning. My tractor puts out about 9 gpm.

At 5.5 gpm, I would expect the ram travel to be significantly slower - probably 14-15 seconds to fully extend the ram. The return is ordinarily a little faster since less oil is required due to the displacement of the cylinder rod.

I would find that slow pace a bit tedious and I suspect that you might be happier with a faster setup - probably a self contained unit.
