I am looking at used 4120 and some have the 400X and others have the 400CX

Other than what i have researched on extra lifting capacity and self leveling for the 400CX are there any of you experts that could shed a light on disadvantages to the 400CX. I thought I saw somewhere ?rollback angle? what is that?

Rollback angle is how far the bucket "curls" back to scoop a load, it is decreased with the CX and can be a issue at times.

I have had both types of JD FELs (self leveling, non-self leveling) and skid steer with self leveling. If you plan to use pallet forks, manlift, bale spear or other attachments that need a lift geometry where the postion of the attachment remains constant, then strongly consider the self leveling. Really helpful for pallet fork because frequently I can't see the forks to determine position. Non-self leveling is better for heaping loads of material in the bucket.
You probably can't carry any more stuff/material in the non-self leveling FEL, but when you raise the FEL arms, it is easier to keep it from spilling out of the bucket as you drive. If you use a mixture of duties, I would recommend the self-leveling.
JDs self leveling FEL also gets a little more lift capacity which is never a bad thing.:)

How much is it decreased?

Do you have the CX and X reversed? Looking at that doc the rollback/dump angles are 43/45 degrees for the CX, and 32 and 46 for the X, so it seems a little better on the CX than the X.

The Rollback Angle at full height is much better on the X (117 vs 43) but I would think that much more than 45 at full height would be dropping crap on the hood. :)

. :)

The roll back angles are given at ground level. As I raise the cx, the angle stays the same. As some one without a self leveling raises theirs, the angle appears to increase. Some to the point that the bucket opening appears straight up. A heaped bucket with the cx will lose material. I will try to get a pix this afternoon and post it.

My last tractor had dents all over the hood! Gravel damage... I seem to recall that the older '00 and '10 series of JD CUTS offered an armour package that included a full-length hood cover.

I used a SL loader this past summer loading small square bales on trailers and hay wagons. It was a great help to ensure that the front end bales didn't plough into the bottom layer of bales (you can't see the front end of the bales) or the rear bales didn't plough into the layer of bales closest to you (while you're gawking at the front of the bale pod).

My next FEL will be self-leveling.

Without getting into the technical details, I'll just tell you that I spread about 40 tons of large crushed rock Monday with a 400CX, and I was able to scoop full loads, and carry them with no problem. I kept the loads below hood level in transit, and was able to raise to above eye level for spreading, all with no difficulty, or accidental spillage :). I'm a novice, so I have no experience with non-self-leveling loaders - I was very happy with the performance of the 400CX.
