I have a friend with a John Deere 400 backhoe that sat about six months and now had a stuck clutch. Any suggestions other than splitting the tractor. It stuck another time and he spiked the breaks couple times and it unstuck. No such luck this time.
Thanks,
Mark

Only a thought, but had a similar problem on my new holland....

It could be a build up of dirt and rust on the clutch forks causing it to seize. Under the bell housing should be a "drain" - often has a linch pin in it, so allow water to drain out but (in theory) stop dirt getting in. Take the pin out (cut it if you have to) and squirt a lot of anti-rusting agent (WD-40 in the UK) - make sure you point the can towards the forks and NOT THE CLUTCH PLATE.

This worked for me several times, but eventually I still had to split the tractor and clean up the forks and thrust bearing properly.

Try removing the round inspection cover off the LH side of clutch housing and spray clutch/PP with brake cleaner.
