Planters $40 2-Row Corn Planter

Well Steve, I have to say, after seeing the pix, I must be in a very poor soil as my garden rocks never grow that large! :D Not to change the direction of the thread, but what do you do with the hole once the rock is pulled? You don't want to fill it with good growing soil, I guess the best thing is to grab some similar sub-soil and fill it with that, then back fill at normal grade levels with growing soil.

So, this JD flex planter is universal in respect to row widths, seed types and what not? It's hard to picture when it's knocked down and palletized, but I saw a photo on line - looks good! You'll be needing more acreage to put this one to work! :)

Here's part of my 2009 harvest. The largest is around 3' x 3' x 4'. Most of my land was never cultivated. It was an apple orchard and cattle pasture for the past 150 years. Most of the rock I have are limestone but I do have some large pieces of granite pushed here from the Canadian Shield by the glaciers during the last ice age.

Thanks. I didn't want to inquire without asking you first since you found this planter. I will call about it and try to get over there to see it.

Robert, did you manage to contact the seller? Did you purchase the planter?

Sorry, Had to post these here as I can't figure out how to insert "local folder" photos into a PM.

Steve, this is how my corn looks in my starter plot.

Graham, believe me I am no corn expert but I think you may not be getting the heat units required this summer. My corn has only taken off during the past three weeks as day time temperatures began to warm up to over 70 degrees. It has grown over 2 feet in the past 2 weeks alone and is over 6 feet tall with lost of husks now. Last summer I was already picking corn by early August. This year it won't be ready for at least another week to 10 days.

My understanding is corn likes heat and sun and if you don't get the heat the corn simply won't grow. I am not sure what is causing the reddish brown leaves.

Here is a link to OMAFRA's nutrient calculator. I just found it online. It seems to have most crops grown in Ontario covered. You start by entering your farm location and soil type using the soil maps. Then you enter your soil test nutrient results (or select your geographic region average) then select crop type and any other nutrients you may have applied like manure, cover crop etc and it will recommend what NPK you should apply. It takes a little getting used to but it works.

Well, the planter is in the back of my truck now. It needs a few things but was in pretty good shape and well worth $40. I was in Marineland with Ava today and the planter was only 4 miles away so it was a very simple and easy deal. Thanks for letting me know about this though.

That's great Robert. I hope you can find the required parts.

Well I ordered $350 worth of parts today for this planter. My friend is building a new lid for the fertilizer hopper and locating a new pully. I still have to buy new chains but it will be in good shape in a couple weeks and ready to go to work :)
