New Holland Boomer 40 Cab
When I purchased my 2018 Boomer 40 Cab the dealer was nice enough to install a basic am/fm/usb radio head in it with the standard factory 4" speakers. The distortion on those factory speakers was so bad you couldn't listern to the radio with the engine running and understand the words. Started shopping for better 4" speakers from Kicker and other brands but reviews for sound quality were marginal at best unless they were part of a four speaker system. Did some measuring and figuring and got a pair of kicker 5.25" coax s2000 speakers with grilles. Using a dremel enlarged openings to the same width as the old screw holes for the 4" factory grilles. New speakers came with speed nuts for mounting screws that enabled me to install without removing cab roof, then used self-tapping screws to secure grilles to cab roof. When it was all done grilles are flush with the indentions in the cab roof with no gaps showing. Sound is terrific even with the engine running both bass and treble. Factory speakers were marked + and - so the wiring was very straightforward. The most challenging part was being nervous about cutting up a brand new tractor cab roof...wife said she couldn't watch:) I did test fit another 5.25 speaker to know how much material I would have to remove before I ordered the speakers. Thought I would share the info in case someone else is thinking of upgrading but scared of what it will look like. I think the key is speakers that include grilles with a larger outside ring to make them flush with the headliner.

When I'm on the tractor or my backhoe.... I wear some (forget the exact name) "in ear monitors" which plants the sound in my head while acting at the same time as a bit of a sound buffer to the outside world....then on top of those, I wear my over-ear hearing protection. I forget the rating but I think they're similar to what might be worn at an airport... (I got the highest sound reduction I could find)

Combined, I can listen to whatever I want in relatively peaceful bliss. At the same time, I can still hear the (muted) sound of the work I'm doing and can still sense if something happens.

(my brother in law once told me he didn't like hearing protection because he wanted to hear if the engine was straining or something (stupid) like that.... I tried to tell him that once you get accustomed to them, you can still hear everything, it's just muted)

Thought I'd add to this even though I hate digging up old threads. I bought the same Kicker 5 1/4" speakers but made 4 to 5 1/4" adapters to avoid cutting the headliner. It worked out well and the speakers sound phenomenal.

Can I ask about something off topic? You titled your post with "LS/New Holland". I've been curious about why LS tractors look identical to New Holland tractors in the few photos I've noticed. The little bit of looking around online that I did showed nothing about a relationship between the two brands. It sounds like LS has nothing at all to do with New Holland, and vice versa. But it sure doesn't look this way. What's up with this? What am I missing?

Very nice mod, by the way!

@Wibb did you use these adapters to simply space the speaker down away from the headliner? Or did you mount the spacer to the 4" speaker mounting holes, then mount the speaker to the wooden adapter?
