Anybody know of a cheaper source for rake tines used on the KK and other landscape rakes. I could only find one source and they want 3.00 dolars apiece. A 72 inch landscape rake needs 36 rakes. It seems kind of high to me for a curved piece of steel from India with a hole drilled in it?

That is about the going rate. Agri-Supply has them for $2.99 each (either 1 or 2 hole). The local Kubota dealer has them for $7.99 each. Last year I paid $140 from Agri-Supply for 38 tines which were shipped as 2 different orders of 19 to eliminate over weight shipping charges from UPS.

BTW, if you go with the 2 hole variety they will not twist when working heavy material.

Mad,

That was what i was afraid of. I planned on getting the 2 hole model since it saves a ton of time from having to drill a ton of holes for that 1 inch metal strip that keeps them from twisting on 1 hole rake tines. HEY MAD...do you happen to know what the distance is between those 2 holes so I can get wide enough angle to make the rake holding bar????

Here are the dimensions of the Agri-Supply tine:
edge to center of farthest hole from edge is 2.75 inches
holes are 1.5 inches on center
holes are for 3/8 inch bolts

Also, I spaced the tines 2 inches apart so the holes for each adjacent tine are 2 inches apart (oc). I used a milling machine to drill all holes, much easier that way.

I used a 5" x 3/8 plate for my tines (super heavy duty). You could probably get by with 3" x 1/4 angle for light duty use.

Too bad you don't live here in the northeast. I have an 84" Landpride complete tine holder assembly with pivot screw and locating plate I would sell you. It just needs a few welds to fix some cracks.

MAD,

I assume when you say you used 5" plate 3/8ths thick that was 5" angle??? I had planned on using 3.5 X 5 inch angle 1/4 thick since my rake will only be 72 wide. That should be more than necessary.

I used a 5" x 3/8 flat bar (plate). Simple 3" x 1/4 angle should be ok for you and fairly inexpensive and much lighter compared to the 5" flat bar I used.

I went 74" because I needed the pivot plate supports centered between 2 tines. My pivot plate was designed to have 3 positions right or left, forward or reverse, 15 degrees, 30 degrees and straight across. The hitch was designed to be detachable from the tine assembly so I could use additional assemblies in the future.

I actually used 37 tines. I'll post a picture in a day or so as soon as I can get my son's camera.

Is yours detachable so you could put attach that dethatcher I seen from another post on?? I plan on making mine with the flat 5" side of the angle down and the 3 inch side up. Check out the pix of the rake that I got my idea from. He did his with the one hole rake.

I had planned on making some heavy duty ground engaging implements that would attach to the rake's 3pt. The dethatcher was made for someone else and is light duty but the principle is the same.

For my rake I used 4" x 3" by 1/4 rectangular tubing for the 3pt drawbar and for the arm that reaches out to the tine assembly. I fabricated a pivot plate and attached it to the tine assembly. I welded 2 ears onto the end of the arm with a hole in each that have pins that go into the pivot plate. The tine assembly actually turns on a bolt in the arm. It kinda looks like a "T" with 3 holes across the top of the T. Totally built with super heavy duty use in mind. Pictures tomorrow I hope.

Here are 5 pics I took of the rake yesterday in my Cover-It shelter. The 2 pins with the hooks go thru the holes in the pivot plate.
