Finally got my electrical work done for my solenoid valve. Just need to neaten up the wiring and figure some way to mount my switch besides using zipties. So, I fire up the tractor and after quickly finding some loose fittings my bucket curl doesnt work. I can hear the solenoids switching. I attached the solenoid that I bought below. I noticed that on mine the inlets show P1 and P2 rather than VE and VR.
I have my yellow, rod end cylinder (port 1) coming from the tractor hooked to P1 and the Red, port 2 to P2. I then connected the lines from port 1 on the solenoid to the bucket cylinders.

Any idea whats wrong?

Have you checked for voltage at the coils? You do have a SPDT switch correct?

This valve must be powered all the time...

I believe its a SPDT switch. Its always centered, push one way and release it returns to center, likewise with opposite direction. I cant find any decent markings on it, and I dont have the packaging.
No constant power when switch is activated.

looks like i need a different switch. If i hold the switch in one postion, everything works fine. Once I release it, power goes away and solenoid must be closing.

Agree. look carefully at the wiring diagram...one solenoid ALWAYS need power. No power and all ports are closed. And you do not need a center OFF switch either... A ON-(ON) switch would work well here, where the one ON position is momentary.

If you look at the 9-5117-A valve, they corrected the "problem" of having to energize one coil all the time...
