3rd function remote

Anyone install a third function remote for operation of a Grapple? I see lots of options noted on the forum but no TYM 273 owners. I have the factory backhoe installed as well.

I just inquired about adding a 3rd function from 2 different TYM dealers. One quoted $900 the other one $1500!!!!! This was for a T454.

I have an RK24 (similar to TYM 234). I ordered it with the factory-installed 3rd function. My cost (March 2019) for it was $650 parts and $225 labor, for a total of $875.

Thanks for asking this question. I asked the RK Tractor guy, 0 response, stil would like to know if the 3rd function remote is a necessity for using the grapple. I do not have, nor plan on the backhoe.

You need some way to actuate the grapple cylinder(s). The 3rd function gives you the option to press a button on the loader joystick and divert the curl/dump circuit flow to the grapple open/close cylinder(s). Without the 3rd function installed, you either wouldn't be able to open and close the grapple, or you'd have to find another way to connect and actuate it. One option would be to run long lines back to a rear remote and use that to control the grapple. It would work just the same, just be a little more inconvenient to keep moving your hand back and forth to different levers.

WR LONG makes alot of third functions that TYM uses on certain models. Google WR Long.

Or you could go with the poor mans set up if you have a rear remote , just run two 3/8 hoses to the front of loader and use the remote valve to open and close grapple. Cost hoses with connectors apr $120.
I bought 4 hoses so i could put connectors in the middle next to FEL connectors in case i wanted to remove the FEL.

I think the T454 has a button on the FEL if so check out this diverter valve to operate the grapple cylinder open and close.

Walter L is correct. I have Ken's diverter valve on my 273 and it works flawlessly! I'm very pleased with it and Ken. I contacted him via email several times with some questions and got prompt, useful, and effective answers. Very easy addition to my tractor and flawless results. Very Pleased. Greg

And a lot cheaper than adding dual remotes like i did on the LS , i already had a single had to remove it and buy duals and install sure wish i had known about Kens diverter valve before.
