3pt Stabilizers

it probably was, but the design was so much better. mine has so much slop on both ends and it is new. you can't get a connection without a lot of side to side free play.
Whispering Oaks, doesn't that look like a CAT II hitch?

I know this may sound dumb, but one thing I realized after wrestling with mine quite a bit, was that if you simply push the implement to one side, and try to set the pin, it will still be loose. The part of the stabilizer that attaches to the tractor will pivot, rather than go deeper into the stabilizer and take up slack. As soon as I started making sure to hold that part of the stabilizer, I was able to get things tightened up quite a bit.

I have read this thread with great interest. But, I have not seen a definitive answer on the right way to hook an implement to a 3pt hitch.

My R3039H is the first tractor I've owned with a 3pt hitch. I've just been using my mechanical instinct to hook my implements up! So far, so good.

What I'm thinking here is some where in the past when 3pt hitches became common place, there was a correct way to set everything up. And, the instructions were in a manual. Why does this not exist anymore? My owners manual guidance is cryptic in this regard.

So far I've not bent anything. I make sure each telescopic link is of equal length with the implement centered to the tractor. There is some side to side play detectible, but I figure some play is good to allow for the inevitable side contact, especially with the rotary cutter length. Ground engaging implements are lifted before turns made.

After reading this thread, it got me curious. Mine hade a couple inches of sway, also. I unhooked my BB, adjusted my sway bars, then hooked up. Hardly any side to side movement at all. My implements are the quick attach type, so I just slide the pins in. Don't have to spread the 3 point arms to get on hitch pins.

I'm not sure why it's not in the manual either, but you're adjusting it the correct way.

Maybe that should be a new thread! You have HST so I'll probably tell you the wrong way. . .

  • Back tractor up to within a foot of implement.
  • Set brake lightly. Set throttle to high idle.
  • Extend lower links. Set stabilizer pins so they're close to width of implement.
  • Stand on right side of tractor and tap reverse pedal with fist to back tractor up until pins align with links.
  • Hook up pins.
  • Go back to right side of tractor and tap pedal hard a couple times to retract telescoping lower links.
  • Attach top link. Raise implement slightly.
  • Set stabilizer pins by compressing the stabilizer from each end. Use three hands if necessary.
  • Lower implement onto a rock or something to unload the weight.
  • Set length of top link and right side lower link height.
  • Tighten everything up and you're good to go.

I imagine some part of that process is wrong and dangerous.

I can't imagine how those people with their luxurious cabs and gear trannies get anything done quickly.
