3pt problem JD 3038E

I have a John Deere 3038E that is about 6 years old, 400 hrs. The loader works fine. The problem is with the hitch. As I adjust the rockshaft lever from the 1 position to a higher number, nothing happens until I reach about 6. The hitch then raises all the way up, unless I pull back on the lever just a little, then the hitch will stop at the position it has reached. It appears to hold that position until I move the lever again slightly. If I move the lever slightly lower, the hitch goes all the way down, and if I move the lever slightly higher, the hitch goes all the way up. This problem appeared after a few months of not using the hitch. Thanks for any help.

Something is stuck in the valve. I would try exercising it a bunch to see if it will free itself. Have you kept the fluid changed? May try to change fluid. I had this on my JD 750. Ended up replacing the Valve.

Thank you for the advice. The fluid has been changed. I will try freeing the valve.
