Something I didn’t see mentioned is that the 3pt hitch splitters are all hydraulic. What about kinetic splitters? I have a 34ton DR kinetic that turns 2x75lb flywheels at 400rpm using a 6hp B&S engine. It will blow through most any wood (I’m from New England- all my wood is oak, hickory, heavily knotted is the norm). Do about 12-15 cords per year between me and my sons. Two things become obvious the first time you use it 1. It is fast- 3 sec cycle time. Your rate limiting step is getting wood to the machine- one or preferably two helpers can be kept busy with this machine. 2. It uses almost no gas- you run all day and still have gas in the small B&S tank. My son worked for a commercial wood yard and he said the guys complained about the machine never needing gas so they missed the fill up break they were used to with the hydraulic machines. I hesitated getting the machine because hydraulics are tried and true, but it has made a believer out of me. So my answer to the op would be stand alone kinetic.
